Hold on to your hat... and maybe everything else

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

From the "Isn't It Obvious?" news desk comes a story about the retail outlook for holiday sales:

Web retail spend has lowest growth rate since 2001
Signaling a difficult holiday shopping season ahead, online retail spending last month rose just 1% -- the lowest rate of increase for the segment since 2001, according to data from comScore. "I think it's clear that consumers have less disposable income and as a result, ecommerce is going to suffer," said comScore senior manager Andrew Lipsman. "I think it's safe to say we aren't going to see growth rates anywhere near to what we've seen in past years."

The story actually appears in the Wall Street Journal and requires a subscription to read in its entirety, but the rest of the article probably seems obvious.
